Mátyás Rákosi

Mátyás Rákosi was a Hungarian communist politician who led Hungary’s Stalinist regime from 1949 to 1956. His rule brought one-party dictatorship, political purges, forced collectivization, and close alignment with the Soviet Union.

Hungarian Revolution of 1956: A nationwide uprising against Soviet domination and Hungary’s communist government in October and November 1956. The revolt forced Rákosi’s successor from power and overturned the political order he had built.
