Media blackout

A deliberate restriction or absence of news reporting about an event, place, or subject. It may be imposed by authorities, organizations, or event organizers, or result from coordinated editorial decisions.

Censorship: The suppression or restriction of expression, information, or communication by an authority or other controlling body. Direct censorship can prohibit reporting or publication about a specified subject.
Wartime censorship: Government control or suppression of information during armed conflict. Wartime controls established enduring methods for restricting reporting.
Daniel Ellsberg: A U.S. military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the press in 1971. His leak challenged official secrecy surrounding the Vietnam War.

Right to know: The principle that people should be able to access information held by governments and other institutions. A blackout withholds information that may be needed for public judgment or safety.
News desert: A geographic area with little or no reliable local news coverage. A news desert reflects a lack of reporting capacity, not necessarily deliberate restriction.
