Medical glove

A disposable glove worn by healthcare workers to reduce contamination and protect hands during examinations, procedures, or patient care.

Natural rubber latex: A flexible natural polymer harvested from rubber trees and used to make elastic products. Its elasticity and tactile feel made it a widely used glove material.
Personal protective equipment: Equipment worn to reduce exposure to hazards that can cause injury or illness. Medical gloves are one element in a broader protective ensemble.
Examination glove: A medical glove used for examinations and routine care, generally supplied nonsterile. This is the common glove for non-surgical patient contact.
Cleanroom glove: A glove designed to limit particle or chemical contamination in controlled manufacturing environments. It prioritizes process cleanliness rather than clinical infection-control requirements.
Nitrile rubber: A synthetic rubber made from acrylonitrile and butadiene, valued for oil resistance and durability. It offers a common alternative when latex sensitivity is a concern.
Standard precautions: Infection-prevention practices applied to all patient care, regardless of suspected infection status. Glove use is guided by anticipated contact with blood, body fluids, or contaminated material.
Surgical glove: A sterile glove designed for surgical procedures and supplied in sizes for precise fit. Sterility and close fit distinguish it from routine examination gloves.
Household glove: A reusable glove intended for domestic cleaning and similar tasks. Its reuse and purpose differ from disposable patient-care gloves.
Polyvinyl chloride: A synthetic polymer used in rigid products and flexible films, including some disposable gloves. Vinyl gloves trade elasticity and barrier performance for low cost.
Hand hygiene: Cleaning hands with soap and water or an antiseptic hand rub to reduce microorganisms. Gloves do not replace hand hygiene before or after patient contact.
