Knowra Mehmed I Mehmed I Mehmed I was Ottoman sultan from 1413 to 1421. He reunited the empire after a succession struggle among the sons of Bayezid I known as the Ottoman Interregnum.
Ottoman Interregnum : A succession struggle among Bayezid I’s sons that divided the Ottoman realm from 1402 to 1413. Mehmed ended this civil conflict by defeating his remaining rival, Musa Çelebi.
Battle of Çamurlu : A 1413 battle in which Mehmed defeated Musa Çelebi, ending the Ottoman Interregnum. This victory secured Mehmed’s uncontested rule over the Ottoman realm.
Murad II : Ottoman sultan from 1421 to 1444 and from 1446 to 1451, and son of Mehmed I. He succeeded Mehmed and continued the recovery of Ottoman power.
Timur : A Central Asian conqueror who founded the Timurid Empire and defeated Bayezid I at Ankara in 1402. His victory over Bayezid created the conditions for Mehmed’s succession struggle.
Bayezid I : Ottoman sultan from 1389 to 1402, whose defeat at Ankara triggered a succession struggle among his sons. Mehmed was Bayezid’s son and inherited the fractured state left by his defeat.
