Melvyn Douglas

Melvyn Douglas (1901–1981) was an American film and stage actor whose performances in Hud and Being There earned him Academy Awards.

Hud: A 1963 Western drama film directed by Martin Ritt and starring Paul Newman as an amoral Texas rancher. Douglas won his first Academy Award for playing the principled family patriarch Homer Bannon.
Martin Ritt: An American film and theater director known for socially conscious dramas including Hud. Ritt directed Douglas in Hud, the performance that brought him an Oscar.
Macbeth: A tragedy by William Shakespeare about a Scottish nobleman whose ambition leads to murder and ruin. Douglas made his Broadway debut in a 1928 production of Macbeth.
Emmy Award: An American award recognizing achievement in television. Douglas also won an Emmy for his television performance in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.
