Merce Cunningham

Merce Cunningham (1919–2009) was an American dancer and choreographer who reshaped modern dance through independent movement, chance-based composition, and collaborations with artists including John Cage.

Chance operations: Procedures that use random outcomes to make decisions in artistic composition. Cunningham used chance to determine movement sequences and other choreographic choices.
