Merseyside

Merseyside is a metropolitan county in north-west England comprising Liverpool and five surrounding metropolitan boroughs. It was established in 1974 and has a metropolitan county council that was abolished in 1986.

Knowsley: Knowsley is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, east of Liverpool. One of the county’s five boroughs beyond Liverpool.
Local Government Act 1972: The Local Government Act 1972 reorganized local government in England and Wales, with changes taking effect in 1974. It established Merseyside and its boroughs in the 1974 reorganization.
Merseytravel: Merseytravel is the public-facing transport brand and coordinating body for public transport in the Liverpool City Region. It coordinates services across Merseyside and nearby Halton.
Liverpool F.C.: Liverpool F.C. is a professional football club based in Liverpool, founded in 1892. The club’s following is a prominent strand of Merseyside identity.
Sefton: Sefton is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, extending from Liverpool to the Irish Sea. Its territory includes northern suburbs and coastal towns.
Merseyside County Council: Merseyside County Council was the upper-tier local authority for Merseyside from 1974 until 1986. The council initially coordinated services across the county’s boroughs.
