Methods in superconductivity are experimental and theoretical techniques for detecting superconducting behavior, characterizing materials, and explaining their electronic properties.

Electrical resistivity measurement: A measurement of how strongly a material opposes electric current, often tracked across temperature. A sharp drop toward zero resistance is a standard signature used to locate a superconducting transition.
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy: A technique that measures the energy and momentum of electrons emitted from a material by light. It maps superconducting gap size and momentum dependence across the Fermi surface.
Meissner effect: The expulsion of magnetic flux from a material as it enters the superconducting state. It distinguishes superconductivity from merely observing zero electrical resistance.
Four-probe measurement: An electrical measurement that separates current injection from voltage sensing using four contacts. It reduces contact-resistance errors that can mimic or obscure a resistance transition.

Superconducting energy gap: The energy interval around the Fermi level without single-particle excitations in a superconducting state. Spectroscopic methods infer this gap to test microscopic descriptions of pairing.
Two-probe measurement: An electrical measurement that uses the same two contacts to drive current and measure voltage. Its contact resistance complicates claims of zero resistance compared with four-probe measurements.
Specific heat measurement: The measurement of heat required to change a material’s temperature. A heat-capacity anomaly at the transition probes the thermodynamic character of superconductivity.
Inelastic neutron scattering: A technique that measures energy and momentum transferred when neutrons scatter from a material. It detects magnetic excitations that may interact with superconducting electrons.
