Michael Collins

Michael Collins (1890–1922) was an Irish revolutionary leader and statesman who negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty and led pro-treaty forces during the Irish Civil War.

Éamon de Valera: An Irish republican leader who opposed the Anglo-Irish Treaty and later served as head of government and president of Ireland. De Valera’s rejection of the Treaty placed him against Collins during the Civil War.
Irish Republican Army: An Irish military organization that fought British rule and later divided over the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Collins held senior command in the IRA during the War of Independence and the Civil War.
Easter Rising: An armed insurrection in Dublin and elsewhere in Ireland in April 1916 against British rule. Collins served in the Irish Republican Brotherhood during the rising and was imprisoned afterward.
Anglo-Irish Treaty: The 1921 agreement that established the Irish Free State as a self-governing dominion while retaining constitutional ties to the British Crown. Collins signed this agreement as a negotiator, accepting a compromise that divided the independence movement.
Arthur Griffith: An Irish nationalist leader who founded Sinn Féin and headed the Irish delegation that negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Griffith led the delegation with Collins and became president of the provisional government.
