Michael Manley

Michael Manley (1924–1997) was a Jamaican politician who served as prime minister from 1972 to 1980 and 1989 to 1992. His governments pursued democratic socialism and expanded education, health care, and workers’ rights.

National Minimum Wage Act (Jamaica): A Jamaican law establishing a statutory minimum wage for workers. Manley’s first government introduced a national minimum wage as part of its labor reforms.
Norman Manley: A Jamaican statesman who helped found the People’s National Party and served as chief minister. His father founded the PNP, the party Michael Manley later led.
