Microbat

A member of the traditional bat suborder Microchiroptera, distinguished from megabats by traits such as echolocation and often small eyes. Molecular evidence showed that this grouping does not represent a single evolutionary lineage.

Chiroptera: The mammalian order comprising bats, whose forelimbs are modified into wings. Microbats are one of the two traditional divisions of this order.
Laryngeal echolocation: Echolocation produced by sounds generated in the larynx and emitted through the mouth or nose. It is the principal echolocation system in many traditionally defined microbats.
Horseshoe bat: A bat in the family Rhinolophidae, named for the horseshoe-shaped structures surrounding its nose. Its nose-emitted calls support precise echolocation and prey detection.
Yinpterochiroptera: One of the two major clades of bats recognized in modern molecular classifications. It includes several lineages once assigned to Microchiroptera alongside megabats.
Megabat: A bat traditionally classified in the suborder Megachiroptera, commonly including fruit bats and flying foxes. The traditional contrast with microbats shaped the original division of bats.

Bat: A flying mammal in the order Chiroptera, with wings formed from elongated fingers and a membrane. The broader common name covers microbats and other bat lineages.
Ultrasound: Sound waves with frequencies above the typical upper limit of human hearing. Many microbat calls use frequencies humans cannot hear.
