Microexpression

A microexpression is a brief, involuntary facial movement associated with an emotion, often described as occurring when someone conceals or suppresses that emotion.

Facial Action Coding System: A system for describing visible facial movements by coding the actions of individual facial muscles. It provides the movement vocabulary used to classify brief facial expressions.
Deception detection: The assessment of whether a person is deliberately communicating information they believe to be false. Microexpressions are sometimes treated as clues to concealed feelings during deception assessment.
Emotional leakage: The unintended communication of emotion through behavior that a person does not fully control. Microexpressions are often presented as one possible channel through which emotion leaks.
Facial expression recognition: The identification of facial movements or emotional categories from visible faces. Its accuracy shapes whether observers can reliably identify fleeting expressions.

Macroexpression: A facial expression that is relatively sustained and readily visible during ordinary interaction. Its longer duration distinguishes it from the brief movements called microexpressions.
Paul Ekman: An American psychologist known for research on facial expression and emotion. His research and training programs helped popularize the use of microexpressions in applied settings.
