Microlith

A microlith is a small, deliberately shaped stone tool, often hafted in wood or bone as part of a composite implement. Microliths are especially associated with prehistoric hunting equipment.

Composite tool: A tool assembled from two or more materials or components to perform a task. Microliths often served as replaceable cutting or piercing elements in assembled weapons.
Upper Paleolithic: The later part of the Paleolithic, marked by diverse stone technologies and symbolic cultures. Some early microlithic traditions developed within Upper Paleolithic societies.
Lithic reduction: The process of shaping stone by removing flakes from a core. Microlith production depends on controlled sequences of stone removal.
Bow and arrow: A projectile weapon in which a flexible bow launches an arrow from a drawn string. Microliths could be mounted as points or barbs on arrows.
Macrolith: A comparatively large stone tool, especially one made for heavy-duty tasks. Its scale and typical use contrast with the small components characteristic of microliths.
Stone tool hafting: The attachment of a stone tool to a handle or shaft using materials such as resin, sinew, or cord. Hafting fixed microliths into wooden shafts, handles, or weapon edges.
Mesolithic: The prehistoric period between the Paleolithic and Neolithic, associated in many regions with foraging lifeways. Microliths became widespread in many Mesolithic toolkits.
Bladelet: A small, narrow stone flake whose length is at least twice its width. Many microliths began as bladelets before receiving additional shaping.
Projectile point: A pointed component attached to a weapon shaft for piercing or cutting a target. Microliths sometimes functioned as small projectile points or parts of them.
Mousterian point: A pointed stone flake associated with Mousterian industries of the Middle Paleolithic. Mousterian points are generally larger, standalone tools rather than tiny composite inserts.
