Military recruitment

Military recruitment is the process of attracting, selecting, and enrolling people for service in a nation’s armed forces. It may rely on voluntary enlistment, conscription, or both.

Military enlistment: The formal act of entering military service, usually through a voluntary contract. It is the point at which a volunteer formally joins the armed forces.
Volunteer military: An armed force whose personnel join by choice rather than through general compulsory service. It depends on attracting enough volunteers instead of requiring broad conscription.
