Knowra Mimar Sinan Mimar Sinan Mimar Sinan was a 16th-century Ottoman architect and engineer whose major works include the Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul and the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne.
Süleymaniye Mosque : An imperial mosque complex in Istanbul, built for Sultan Süleyman I and designed by Mimar Sinan. This Istanbul commission established Sinan’s stature as chief imperial architect.
Ottoman architecture : The architectural tradition developed under Ottoman rule, combining regional influences with distinctive imperial forms. Sinan’s buildings helped define its classical style.
Janissaries : The Ottoman sultan’s elite infantry corps, recruited largely through the devşirme system and organized under central authority. Sinan’s service in the Janissaries preceded his appointment as imperial architect.
