Missouri

Missouri is a U.S. state in the Midwest, bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri River across much of its western and southern boundaries.

Mississippi River: The major North American river that flows south from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. It forms Missouri’s eastern boundary and connects the state to a vast inland waterway.
Louisiana Purchase: The 1803 acquisition in which the United States purchased a vast territory from France. The purchase brought the land that became Missouri under U.S. control.
Thomas Hart Benton: A U.S. senator from Missouri who served from 1821 to 1851 and advocated westward expansion. His long Senate career made him a defining early figure in Missouri politics.
