Modern Greek Enlightenment

An intellectual and cultural movement that spread Enlightenment ideas among Greek-speaking communities in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It helped shape modern Greek education, language debates, and national identity.

Adamantios Korais: A Greek scholar and humanist who promoted education, textual scholarship, and a reformed Greek language. His language program and educational writings made him the movement’s most influential public intellectual.
Greek diaspora: Greek-speaking communities living beyond the territories of modern Greece. Merchant and scholarly networks connected Greek communities to European publishing and education.
