Mohsen Rezaee

Mohsen Rezaee is an Iranian politician and former military commander who led the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from 1981 to 1997.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps: Iranian military organization established after the 1979 revolution to defend the Islamic Republic. Rezaee commanded the IRGC for sixteen years.
Iranian presidential election, 2009: Iran’s disputed presidential election in June 2009, won officially by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Rezaee was one of the candidates challenging Ahmadinejad.
Iran–Iraq War: A war between Iran and Iraq that lasted from 1980 to 1988 and caused extensive casualties and destruction. Rezaee led the IRGC through most of the war.
Iranian Revolution: The mass political upheaval of 1978–1979 that overthrew Iran’s monarchy and established an Islamic republic. The revolution created the new state and military institution Rezaee later served.
