Mon–Burmese script

A Brahmic-derived writing system used to write Burmese and Mon, with letter forms and conventions adapted to represent each language’s sounds.

Brahmic scripts: A family of writing systems descended from ancient Indian scripts and used across South and Southeast Asia. The script belongs to this historical family through its South Asian ancestry.
Myanmar consonant letters: Letters that represent consonants in the Myanmar script, often with an inherent vowel. They provide the syllable bases around which vowel signs are arranged.
Pallava script: A South Indian script used during the Pallava dynasty and influential in the spread of writing across Southeast Asia. Its script tradition contributed to the ancestry of Myanmar writing.

Kadamba script: A southern Indian script used by the Kadamba dynasty and related to early Southeast Asian writing traditions. It belongs to the South Indian lineage associated with early Burmese letter forms.
Myanmar script shaping: The software process that positions and orders Myanmar-script characters for display. Complex mark placement requires shaping beyond simple character-by-character rendering.
Burmese alphabet: The conventional inventory of letters used to write Burmese in the Burmese script. It is the script’s best-known language-specific letter inventory.
Myanmar diacritics: Marks added to Myanmar-script letters to indicate features such as vowels, tones, or final consonants. They alter pronunciation without replacing the consonant letter forms.
