Mongol horse archers

Mongol horse archers were mounted warriors who used composite bows from horseback, combining mobility, long-range attack, and coordinated maneuver to fight across Eurasia.

Mongol composite bow: A compact bow made from layers of wood, horn, and sinew, designed to deliver powerful shots from horseback. Its short, recurved design let riders shoot effectively without carrying a long infantry bow.
Mongolian horse: A hardy, compact horse breed adapted to the cold, dry grasslands of Mongolia. Its endurance and ability to forage helped riders campaign far from settled supply bases.
Battle of the Kalka River: A 1223 battle in which Mongol forces defeated a coalition of Rus’ princes and Cumans on the Kalka River. The Mongols used a prolonged withdrawal to draw their opponents into a vulnerable pursuit.
