Monte San Giorgio

Monte San Giorgio is a fossil-rich mountain region on the Switzerland–Italy border, renowned for exceptionally preserved Middle Triassic marine life.

Besano Formation: A Middle Triassic rock formation in the Monte San Giorgio region, famous for exceptionally preserved marine fossils. Its fossil beds form the best-known Italian part of the mountain’s Triassic record.
