Mora

A unit of phonological weight and timing, usually smaller than or equal to a syllable. Languages use morae to organize syllable weight, stress, and rhythm.

Syllable: A speech unit organized around a vowel or other sonorous nucleus, often with consonants around it. A mora is often a syllable or a weighted part of one.
Moraic theory: A framework that represents syllable weight and related phonological patterns using morae. It formalizes how segments and syllables are associated with timing units.
Japanese phonology: The sound system and sound patterns of the Japanese language. Japanese timing and several phonological processes are commonly analyzed in moraic terms.
