Moroccan independence

Moroccan independence was the restoration of the country's sovereignty in 1956, ending French and Spanish protectorate rule while leaving some territories under foreign control.

Treaty of Fez: The 1912 agreement that established a French protectorate over most of Morocco. It formalized the French protectorate whose termination became central to independence.
Mohammed V of Morocco: The Moroccan sultan who became a leading symbol of national unity and independence. His return from exile in 1955 helped make the restoration of sovereignty possible.
Manifesto of Independence: A 1944 Moroccan nationalist declaration demanding independence and constitutional government. It gave organized form to the movement’s political demands.
Moroccan reunification: The process of bringing formerly divided Moroccan territories under the authority of the independent state. The protectorates ended in 1956, but territorial integration continued afterward.

Ifni War: A 1957–1958 conflict between Morocco and Spain over Spanish-controlled territories in southern Morocco. It showed that independence had not settled all territorial disputes with Spain.
Tunisian independence: The restoration of Tunisia’s sovereignty from French protectorate rule in 1956. Tunisia gained independence in the same year through a distinct political transition.
