Mount Elbert

Mount Elbert is a 14,440-foot mountain in Colorado’s Sawatch Range, the highest summit in Colorado and the second-highest peak in the contiguous United States.

North Mount Elbert Trail: A hiking route that climbs Mount Elbert from its northern side. This popular route provides a direct approach to the summit from near Leadville.
Sawatch Range: A mountain range in central Colorado containing many of the state’s highest peaks. Mount Elbert is its highest summit and part of its long chain of high mountains.
High-altitude mountaineering: Mountaineering in environments where reduced air pressure and oxygen affect human performance. The summit’s elevation makes acclimatization, pacing, and weather awareness relevant.
