MPEG-4 Part 14

MPEG-4 Part 14 is a multimedia container format that stores timed audio, video, subtitles, and metadata, commonly identified by the .mp4 filename extension.

ISO base media file format: A box-based file format that underlies MP4 and several related media containers. MP4 inherits its basic box structure from this broader format.
Video codec: A method for encoding and decoding digital video. MP4 can carry video encoded with different codecs; it does not itself define video compression.
HTTP Live Streaming: Apple’s adaptive bitrate streaming protocol for delivering media over HTTP. Its fragmented MP4 media segments can carry streamed audio and video.
MPEG-4 Part 2: A video coding standard in the MPEG-4 family, distinct from the MP4 container specification. The similar names obscure that Part 2 specifies video coding, while Part 14 specifies a container.
MP4 box: A typed, nested data structure used to store information in ISO base media files. MP4 files are organized as boxes carrying media data and descriptive information.

H.264: A widely used video coding standard that compresses video into a bitstream. H.264 is commonly stored as a video track in MP4 files.
