Mucorales

Mucorales is an order of fungi that includes fast-growing molds, common decomposers, and species capable of causing mucormycosis.

Mucoromycota: A fungal phylum that includes Mucorales and several other groups of soil- and plant-associated fungi. Mucorales is classified within this broader fungal lineage.
Asexual reproduction: Asexual reproduction produces offspring without fusion of reproductive cells. Mucorales commonly disperse through asexual spores formed in sporangia.
Mucormycosis: Mucormycosis is an invasive infection caused by fungi in the order Mucorales. It is the principal human disease associated with this fungal order.
Aspergillus: Aspergillus is a genus of filamentous fungi that includes environmental molds and human pathogens. Its narrower, regularly septate hyphae help distinguish aspergillosis from mucormycosis.

Rhizopus arrhizus: Rhizopus arrhizus is a Mucorales fungus and a frequent cause of human mucormycosis. It is among the most commonly identified clinical Mucorales pathogens.
Candida: Candida is a genus of yeasts that includes species responsible for human infections. Candida causes a different group of fungal diseases and has yeast-like growth forms.
Opportunistic infection: An opportunistic infection occurs when a microorganism causes disease in a host with weakened defenses or disrupted barriers. Mucormycosis disproportionately affects people with specific immune or metabolic vulnerabilities.
