Muhammad of Ghor

Muhammad of Ghor was a 12th-century Ghurid ruler whose conquests established a lasting political foothold for Muslim dynasties in northern India.

Second Battle of Tarain: A 1192 battle in which Muhammad of Ghor defeated Prithviraj Chauhan’s forces near Tarain. This victory opened the route to Ghurid conquest of much of northern India.
Qutb al-Din Aibak: A Ghurid military commander who became the first sultan of Delhi after Muhammad of Ghor’s death. He governed Ghurid territories in India and founded an independent Delhi sultanate.
Ghurid dynasty: A dynasty from Ghur in central Afghanistan that ruled a medieval empire across parts of Afghanistan, Iran, and northern India. Muhammad’s campaigns were one phase of the dynasty’s wider rise.

Nasir al-Din Qabacha: A Ghurid military officer who ruled parts of Sindh and Punjab in the early thirteenth century. His regional rule emerged from the territories Muhammad’s campaigns brought under Ghurid control.
