Mullah Omar

Mullah Omar was an Afghan cleric who founded the Taliban and led it as its supreme leader. He ruled Afghanistan through the Taliban government from 1996 to 2001.

Soviet–Afghan War: A 1979–1989 conflict in which Soviet forces fought Afghan resistance groups backed by foreign states. Its aftermath left Afghanistan fragmented and armed factions competing for power.
Supreme Leader of the Taliban: The highest authority within the Taliban, directing its political and religious leadership. Omar held this position and exercised final authority over the movement.
Taliban government (1996–2001): The Taliban administration that controlled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until its overthrow in 2001. Omar led this government, whose policies restricted women’s rights and public life.
