Multirotor

A rotorcraft lifted and controlled by several powered rotors. Most multirotors use fixed-pitch propellers and vary rotor speeds to maneuver.

Thrust: A force that propels an aircraft through the air or opposes its weight. The combined rotor thrust must balance weight for a multirotor to hover.
Brushless DC electric motor: An electronically commutated motor that uses permanent magnets on its rotor and windings on its stator. Small multirotors commonly use these motors to spin their propellers.
Helicopter: A rotorcraft whose lift and control primarily come from one or more main rotors. A conventional helicopter uses a different rotor arrangement and usually a more complex pitch-control system.
Unmanned aerial vehicle: An aircraft operated without a pilot aboard, by remote control or onboard automation. Multirotors are a widely used configuration for small uncrewed aircraft.
Torque: A rotational effect produced by a force acting at a distance from an axis. Unequal rotor torques turn the aircraft about its vertical axis.
Propeller: A rotating blade assembly that produces thrust by accelerating air. Each powered propeller supplies one of the multirotor's lift-producing forces.
Fixed-wing aircraft: An aircraft whose wings generate lift through forward motion rather than powered rotor lift. Fixed-wing aircraft generally trade vertical takeoff and hovering for efficient forward flight.
Aerial photography: Photographic imaging made from an elevated position, commonly from an aircraft. Hovering and precise low-speed movement make multirotors useful camera platforms.
Flight controller: An electronic system that processes sensor data and adjusts actuators to control a vehicle. It continually changes motor commands to stabilize the multirotor.
Electronic speed controller: An electronic device that regulates power delivered to an electric motor. It converts flight-controller commands into motor-speed changes.
