Museum
A museum is a lasting institution that collects, preserves, studies, and interprets objects, specimens, or cultural heritage for public benefit.
Museum collection: A group of objects or specimens assembled and maintained by a museum. Collections are the material foundation for a museum’s research, preservation, and displays.
Cabinet of curiosities: A private collection of unusual natural and human-made objects, especially common in early modern Europe. These collections were important predecessors to the modern museum.
John Tradescant the Younger: A seventeenth-century English gardener and collector whose collection became the basis of the Ashmolean Museum. His collection helped establish one of the earliest public museums.
