Muslim conquest of Syria

The seventh-century campaign in which Rashidun forces defeated Byzantine armies and brought Syria under Muslim rule, reshaping the eastern Mediterranean.

Battle of Yarmouk: A 636 battle in which Rashidun forces defeated a Byzantine army near the Yarmouk River. This decisive victory broke organized Byzantine resistance in Syria.
Byzantine–Sasanian War of 602–628: A prolonged war between the Byzantine and Sasanian empires, ending in 628 with both states weakened. The conflict left Byzantine defenses and finances strained before the Rashidun invasion.
Bilad al-Sham: The Arabic name for the eastern Mediterranean region encompassing Syria and neighboring territories. The conquered province became part of a wider caliphal region known as Bilad al-Sham.
