Knowra Muthuswami Dikshitar Muthuswami Dikshitar Muthuswami Dikshitar (1775–1835) was a Carnatic composer and vocalist whose Sanskrit kritis, often centered on Hindu deities and temples, helped shape South Indian classical music.
Carnatic music : A classical music tradition of South India, organized around raga, tala, and composed and improvised forms. Dikshitar’s compositions belong to this tradition and helped define its repertoire.
Sangita Sampradaya Pradarshini : A 1904 music treatise by Subbarama Dikshitar that records compositions, notation, and musical theory. Its notation preserves many Dikshitar kritis and details of their melodic treatment.
Tyagaraja : An influential Carnatic composer and vocalist who lived from 1767 to 1847. He is remembered alongside Dikshitar as one of the Carnatic Trinity.
Vatapi Ganapatim : A Sanskrit kriti by Muthuswami Dikshitar praising Ganesha and set in raga Hamsadhvani. It is among his best-known compositions and a frequent concert opener.
Carnatic concert : A performance format featuring composed and improvised music in the South Indian classical tradition. Dikshitar’s kritis remain a central part of concert repertoire.

Kamalamba Navavarna : A cycle of eleven compositions by Dikshitar associated with Goddess Kamalamba at the Tiruvarur temple. The cycle displays his command of ritual symbolism, Sanskrit, and compositional architecture.
Manodharma sangeeta : The improvisational practice of creating music spontaneously within Indian classical frameworks. His compositions provide melodic and rhythmic material around which Carnatic improvisation can unfold.
