Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv is a major port and shipbuilding city in southern Ukraine, near the confluence of the Southern Bug and Inhul rivers.

Grigory Potemkin: Grigory Potemkin was a Russian military and political leader who governed New Russia under Catherine the Great. He ordered the founding of the shipyard settlement that became Mykolaiv.
Inhul: The Inhul is a river in central and southern Ukraine that joins the Southern Bug at Mykolaiv. Its confluence with the Southern Bug defines the city’s central geographic setting.
Black Sea Shipyard: The Black Sea Shipyard was a major shipbuilding enterprise in Mykolaiv, producing vessels for the Soviet and Russian navies. It made the city one of the Soviet Union’s leading centers for naval construction.

Russian Empire: The Russian Empire was a state that ruled much of Eurasia from 1721 until 1917. Mykolaiv was founded within its southern imperial expansion.
