Myron

Myron was an ancient Greek sculptor active in the fifth century BCE, celebrated for bronze figures that capture bodies in energetic, carefully balanced movement.

Discobolus: A sculpture of an athlete twisting to throw a discus, attributed to Myron and preserved through Roman copies. This is Myron’s best-known composition and the clearest example of his interest in arrested motion.
Ancient Greek sculpture: Sculpture produced in the Greek world from the Bronze Age through the Hellenistic period. Myron’s work belongs to the classical phase of this long sculptural tradition.

Pausanias: A Greek travel writer of the second century CE whose Description of Greece documents monuments and traditions. His accounts contribute evidence for works and attributions associated with Myron.
Ladas: A lost statue of the runner Ladas, an Olympic victor, attributed to Myron by ancient sources. Ancient writers associated this statue with Myron’s ability to suggest motion and life.
Contrapposto: A standing pose in which a figure’s weight rests mainly on one leg, creating an asymmetrical balance. Myron’s figures are often discussed against the changing poses that defined classical Greek sculpture.
