Nakkaş Osman

Nakkaş Osman was a leading sixteenth-century Ottoman miniature painter who directed court workshops and illustrated manuscripts, including the 1588 Surname-i Hümayun.

Surname-i Hümayun: An illustrated Ottoman manuscript documenting the circumcision festivities held for Sultan Murad III’s son in 1582. Osman’s workshop helped depict the celebrations in this lavish 1588 account.
