Nandrolone

Nandrolone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid related to testosterone. It has medical uses in some countries and is also misused to increase muscle growth and athletic performance.

Androgen receptor: A nuclear receptor activated by testosterone and related hormones that regulates gene expression. Nandrolone produces many of its anabolic and androgenic effects by activating this receptor.
Anemia: A condition in which the blood has too few red blood cells or too little hemoglobin. Nandrolone has been used medically in some countries to treat certain forms of anemia.
Hypogonadism: A condition in which the gonads produce insufficient sex hormones or gametes. Nandrolone can suppress natural testosterone production, sometimes causing hypogonadism after use.
Testosterone: The principal androgen in males, also produced in smaller amounts in females. Nandrolone is structurally related to testosterone but differs in metabolism and tissue effects.
Anabolic-androgenic steroid: A class of steroid hormones and synthetic drugs that promote tissue-building effects and masculinizing effects. Nandrolone is one member of this drug class.
Osteoporosis: A skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone strength and increased fracture risk. Nandrolone has had limited medical use in conditions involving bone loss.
Infertility: The inability to achieve pregnancy after a period of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Suppression of sperm production can impair fertility during and after nandrolone use.
Boldenone: A synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid derived from testosterone and used mainly in veterinary medicine. Boldenone is a structurally related steroid often compared with nandrolone in doping contexts.
5α-Reductase: An enzyme that converts testosterone and some other steroids into more potent 5α-reduced forms. Unlike testosterone, nandrolone is reduced by this enzyme to a metabolite with weaker androgenic activity in some tissues.
Doping in sport: The use of prohibited substances or methods to improve athletic performance. Nandrolone is prohibited in sport because it can enhance performance and carries health risks.
