Nanling Mountains

The Nanling Mountains are a mountain system in southern China that separates the Yangtze River basin from the Pearl River basin and divides north and south China.

South China: South China is the southern region of China, commonly defined by its geography, climate, history, and cultural traditions. The Nanling form a major geographic boundary within this broad region.
Watershed: A watershed is an area of land that drains rainfall and streams toward a shared outlet. The Nanling divide water flowing toward two major river systems.

Xiang River: The Xiang River is a major tributary of the Yangtze that flows through Hunan Province. Its upper basin lies north of the Nanling, linking the range to the Yangtze drainage.
Cathaysia Block: The Cathaysia Block is an ancient continental fragment that forms much of southeastern China’s geological foundation. Its rocks and tectonic history are integral to the Nanling’s southern geological setting.
China National Highway 107: China National Highway 107 is a major north–south road connecting Beijing with Shenzhen. Its corridor crosses the Nanling through the southern Hunan and Guangdong transport zone.
Pearl River basin: The Pearl River basin is the drainage region of the Pearl River system in southern China and northern Vietnam. The Nanling separate its northern headwaters from rivers flowing toward the Yangtze.
Bei River: The Bei River is a major tributary of the Pearl River in Guangdong Province. Its headwaters drain slopes south of the Nanling.
