Nanyue

Nanyue was a kingdom in what is now southern China and northern Vietnam, founded in 204 BCE by the Qin general Zhao Tuo. It preserved substantial autonomy while engaging with the Han empire.

Zhao Tuo: A Qin general who founded Nanyue in 204 BCE and ruled it as its first king. His break from Qin authority established the kingdom.
Han–Nanyue relations: The diplomatic and political relationship between the Han empire and the Nanyue kingdom. Negotiation with Han rulers shaped Nanyue's autonomy and foreign policy.

Han dynasty expansion: The territorial growth of the Han empire through military campaigns and political incorporation. Nanyue's annexation formed part of Han expansion into southern regions.
Qin Shi Huang: The first emperor of a unified China, who ruled from 221 to 210 BCE. His campaigns extended Qin rule into the lands Zhao Tuo later governed.
Nanyue administration: The governing institutions through which Nanyue ruled its territory and population. Local commanderies and royal authority helped hold the kingdom together.
