Nefertiti
Nefertiti was an Egyptian queen of the 18th Dynasty, wife of Akhenaten and a prominent participant in his religious and political reforms.
Akhenaten: An Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty who promoted the worship of Aten and founded the capital Akhetaten. As her husband and co-ruler in public imagery, he led the reforms she helped represent.
Nefertiti Bust: A painted limestone bust of Nefertiti discovered at Amarna and now held in Berlin’s Neues Museum. Its idealized portrait became the most recognizable image associated with the queen.
Atenism: The religious system promoted by Akhenaten, centered on the solar disk Aten and the royal family’s mediation of its worship. Nefertiti’s ritual prominence helped present the royal family as central to Aten’s worship.
18th Dynasty of Egypt: A dynasty of ancient Egypt that ruled during the New Kingdom, including the reigns of Hatshepsut, Akhenaten, and Tutankhamun. Nefertiti’s life belongs to this dynasty’s imperial court and succession politics.
Ankhkheperure Neferneferuaten: A ruler who succeeded Akhenaten briefly, whose identity is debated among Egyptologists. Some scholars identify this ruler with Nefertiti, but the evidence does not settle the question.
