Negative number

A real number less than zero, represented on the number line to the left of zero. Its sign distinguishes it from zero and positive numbers.

Zero: The integer that separates positive numbers from negative numbers and leaves other numbers unchanged under addition. It is the boundary that defines which real numbers are negative.
Additive inverse: A number that sums with a given number to produce zero. Every real number’s additive inverse has the opposite sign, except zero.
