Negev

The Negev is a largely arid region in southern Israel, extending from the Beersheba area to the Gulf of Aqaba and covering more than half the country.

Negev Desert: The arid desert landscape occupying much of southern Israel. The desert is the defining physical environment across much of the Negev.
Ramon Crater: A large erosion cirque in Israel’s Negev, known in Hebrew as Makhtesh Ramon. It is the largest and most prominent makhtesh in the Negev.

Incense Route: A network of ancient trade routes carrying frankincense and other goods from Arabia toward the Mediterranean. Its branches linked Negev towns to long-distance commerce.
Drip irrigation: A method that delivers water slowly near plant roots through tubes and emitters. It enables more efficient crop cultivation under the Negev’s dry conditions.
Unrecognized Bedouin villages in Israel: Bedouin communities in Israel whose villages lack formal state recognition. Many such villages are in the Negev and face limits on services and development.
