Nepali Congress

Nepali Congress is a major political party in Nepal, founded in 1950. It campaigned against the Rana regime and later opposed royal restrictions on party politics.

Rana dynasty: The hereditary prime-ministerial family that ruled Nepal from 1846 to 1951. The party formed to challenge the Rana family’s monopoly on political power.
1951 Nepalese revolution: The movement that ended the Rana family’s hereditary rule in Nepal in 1951. The party’s armed and political campaign contributed to the Rana regime’s fall.
Ganesh Man Singh: A Nepali Congress leader who became a central figure in the 1990 movement against the Panchayat system. He helped direct the party’s role in the struggle that restored multiparty democracy.
