New International Version

The New International Version is an English translation of the Bible first published in full in 1978. It aims to balance accuracy to the source texts with clear, contemporary English.

Committee on Bible Translation: A committee of biblical scholars responsible for translating and revising the New International Version. Its members produced the translation and oversee later revisions.
Dynamic and formal equivalence: Two broad translation approaches emphasizing, respectively, sense in the target language and correspondence to source wording. The NIV uses a balance of these approaches rather than following either one exclusively.
English Standard Version: A 2001 English Bible translation that emphasizes close correspondence to the wording and structure of its source texts. It generally preserves source-language form more closely than the NIV's readability-oriented approach.
Zondervan: A Christian publishing company that publishes and distributes the New International Version in the United States. It is a principal publisher of NIV print and digital editions.
New Testament in Modern English: A 1961 English New Testament translation by J. B. Phillips, written in contemporary language. It exemplified the demand for accessible modern English before the NIV project began.

Koine Greek: The common Greek language used across the eastern Mediterranean during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. It is the principal source language for the NIV's New Testament.
