New Kingdom of Egypt

The New Kingdom of Egypt was the period from roughly 1550 to 1070 BCE when Egypt expanded into an imperial power and reached its widest territorial influence.

Egyptian Empire: The ancient Egyptian state’s system of rule over territories beyond the Nile Valley. The New Kingdom’s conquests created Egypt’s largest and most durable empire.
Ahmose I: The pharaoh who expelled the Hyksos from Egypt and founded the Eighteenth Dynasty. His reunification and campaigns mark the New Kingdom’s conventional beginning.

Pharaoh: The title commonly used for the rulers of ancient Egypt. New Kingdom kingship concentrated military command, religious duties, and state authority in the ruler.
Amarna Letters: A collection of diplomatic correspondence written mainly in Akkadian on clay tablets in the fourteenth century BCE. The letters show how New Kingdom rulers and officials managed alliances and vassal states.
Egyptian-Hittite peace treaty: A diplomatic agreement between Egypt and the Hittite Empire, concluded after decades of conflict. The treaty formalized peaceful relations after the struggle over imperial influence in Syria.
