Nicaraguan National Guard

Nicaragua’s National Guard was a military and police institution that enforced the Somoza family’s rule from 1933 until its defeat in 1979.

Anastasio Somoza García: Nicaraguan military officer and politician who founded the Somoza dynasty and ruled Nicaragua as president or strongman. As Guard chief, he used the institution to seize power and secure his rule.
