Nicholas I of Montenegro

Nicholas I ruled Montenegro as prince from 1860 to 1910 and king from 1910 to 1918. His reign brought international recognition, territorial expansion, and eventual loss of the Montenegrin monarchy.

Danilo I of Montenegro: Montenegro’s prince-bishop from 1852 to 1853 and secular prince from 1853 to 1860, whose rule established the principality. Nicholas succeeded his uncle Danilo after Danilo’s assassination in 1860.
