Nicholas Ray

Nicholas Ray (1911–1979) was an American film director and screenwriter whose films, including In a Lonely Place and Rebel Without a Cause, explored alienation and emotional conflict.

In a Lonely Place: A 1950 film noir directed by Nicholas Ray, starring Humphrey Bogart as a volatile screenwriter suspected of murder. Its portrait of a tormented artist is among Ray’s most acclaimed studies of intimacy and violence.
