Niece and nephew

A niece is the daughter of someone’s sibling, and a nephew is the son of someone’s sibling. They are relatives in the first degree of the collateral line.

Step-sibling: A step-sibling is the child of one’s stepparent from a different relationship. Whether a step-sibling’s child is called a niece or nephew depends on family usage.
Child: A child is a person’s son or daughter, especially in relation to a parent. A niece or nephew is the child of a sibling.
Grandniece and grandnephew: A grandniece or grandnephew is the grandchild of someone’s sibling. This term extends the same sibling-based relationship by one generation.
