Nimrud

Nimrud is the modern name for Kalhu, an ancient Assyrian city that served as an imperial capital. Its palace reliefs and monumental buildings document Assyrian royal power.

Northwest Palace: The palace built at Nimrud by Ashurnasirpal II, decorated with monumental stone reliefs. Its reliefs and inscriptions made the city’s royal center an enduring archaeological landmark.
Ashurnasirpal II: An Assyrian king who ruled from 883 to 859 BCE and made Kalhu his capital. He rebuilt Nimrud on an imperial scale and established its Northwest Palace.
Assyrian royal inscriptions: Texts commissioned by Assyrian kings to record campaigns, building works, and claims to divine favor. Inscriptions at Nimrud presented royal construction and conquest as legitimate rule.
