Northern Ireland Assembly

The Northern Ireland Assembly is the devolved legislature of Northern Ireland, based at Stormont in Belfast. It makes laws on transferred matters and scrutinizes the Northern Ireland Executive.

D'Hondt method: A mathematical procedure that allocates seats or offices proportionally among parties. The method allocates ministerial portfolios to parties according to their Assembly strength.
Belfast Agreement: The 1998 political agreement that established institutions for power-sharing and cooperation in Northern Ireland. It provided the political settlement on which the Assembly is based.
